The Declaration Of Independence Uncovering Its Strategic...

The Declaration of Independence: Uncovering Its Strategic Art The fundamental purpose of America’s Declaration of Independence was to illustrate to foreign nations why the colonies had decided to detach and disassociate themselves from Great Britain. The Revolutionary War had already been in motion, and numerous major battles had occurred. The American colonies had already cut most major ties to England, and had established their very own currency, congress, army, and post office. On June 7, 1776, at the Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Richard Henry Lee articulated a position that the United States should be completely liberated of England’s dominance, and that all political ties between the two countries should be eradicated. Congress†¦show more content†¦Thomas Jefferson sought to formulate a general political philosophy that affirms the right of a people to establish and overturn its own government, which is made clear in the first part of the second para graph of the Declaration, providing that all men are created equal with rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In his 2nd Treatise on Government, Philosopher John Locke states that the government should protect its people and their property, and if government does not fulfill this obligation then it must be overthrown. In other words, the government is not allowed to go on a tyrannical power trip. In various aspects, the British Empire did exactly this. According to the Declaration of Independence: The king has appointed swarms of officers to harass our people, has harbored armed troops among us, has imposed taxes on us without our consent, has taken away our charters, abolished our most valuable laws, and reformed the Forms of our Governments. He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, . . . destroyed the lives of our people, and incited domestic insurrections amongst us. These are all acts that were out of line, caused by several power tr ips. This was the reason why America desired Independence. They needed to make it clear to the king that they need to be happy and out of harm’s way, which are basic human rights. All kings have a duty to

Abortion in American Culture Free Essays

American Pop Culture Americas culture is evolving everyday although, society is not aware of this change due to the everyday hustle that we exert on ourselves trying to accomplish what the media and advertising has imprinted in regard to what our lives should contain. Media and advertising have a huge impact on how society thinks, acts, feels, and what is expected therefore, Americans subconsciously are trying to achieve what the media has painted as the American Dream. There are many ways that societies thoughts have been altered with the assistance of the media, one action that evolved the entire country would be the Roe vs. We will write a custom essay sample on Abortion in American Culture or any similar topic only for you Order Now Wade ruling. Prior to Roe vs. Wade women throughout the country were making decisions on abortion but abortion was not legal at the time. â€Å"Abortion was widely available in many places across the United States if you were a woman who had good medical contacts and sufficient money. If you lacked either those contacts or the money, then abortion was either not available or available under exceptionally unsafe circumstances† (Garrow, D. 1999). During the 1960’s women received better medical services because of the higher social status they contained. Compared to women who did not have those types of social contacts or the money, they would put their lives at risk when making the decision to continue with an abortion under unsafe circumstances. Decisions like this were made because of the consequences that society or culture would place on the woman. When Roe vs. Wade went to trial in 1973 to determine if a woman’s constitutional rights were being violated the final ruling had an enormous impact on the country. It gave women the chance to decide for themselves without the complications of being exposed to unhealthy or possibly deadly situations. This did not change the way Americans felt about the issue but it did change the way women all over the country dealt with the issue. Women now had a voice of their own in regard to making a decision that would affect them for the rest of their lives. This also changed how the rest of the country would react because now it is not a secret, the issue is out in the open and everyone sees the outcomes whether positive or negative. The legal struggle of Roe vs. Wade has impacted the country with the assistance of the media and advertising. The impact has affected all Americans but for some the impact on their lives is larger than others depending on the daily tasks. For example, physicians must deal with patients who are requesting an abortion. The physician must choose to assist the patient or have them seen by another physician because he or she does not want to participate in an action that they do not believe in. Politics is another example where the abortion issue is always discussed, especially during the election season. Running representatives are always careful in choosing pro-life or pro-choice, this type of decision can make or break their career. As noted in Abortion in America, â€Å"Abortion is too much part of the American Scene† (Shostak, A. 1991) therefore this is an issue the country must deal with or years to come. References Garrow, D. His work began to attract serious critical attention and praise by the time he was twenty. His first mature work was around 1901, which is classified as his Blue Period. He painted anecdotal scenes of clowns, vagrants, and prostitutes, all in tones of blue. Important early works include his Self- Portrait (1901) and La Vie (1903). As the time moved forward, Picasso painting developed, and he met the right people in Paris. In 1904, he met Oliver a Bohemia model and they fell in love, and his Rose Period began. His subject matter remained much the same compare to his Blue Period, but his tones were warmer, rosier with orange and pink colors, and the atmosphere of his paintings was gayer. And Olivier appears in many of his Rose Period paintings. This is sometimes called Picasso Rose Period, but really there was no marked technical change between this and the Blue Period. Picasso African influenced Period was during 1907 to 1909 and formal ideas developed during this period lead directly into the Cubist period that follows. During 1909 to 1912 Picasso and Georges Braques developed Cubism. Cubism is one of the most radical restructuring of the way that a work of art constructs its meaning. Cubism is a term that was derived from a reference made to geometric schemes and cubes. Cubism has been known as the first and the most influential of all movements in 20th century art. Before Picasso did any cubism paintings, there were works exhibiting a raw intensity and violence due to his reading of monoester art aligned with European primitivism. This contrasting position provided the dynamic for Picasso work. In his paintings such as Mother and Child, Picasso showed the fetishistic and simplifying aspects of primitivism. In his paintings Picasso used bright hues and subdued grays and earth colors. And he found out that shapes could have meaning and identities by their arrangement. Pablo Picasso died on 8 April 1973 in Noggins, France. And he was buried in the grounds of a chi ¤attain the village of Buenaventura in the south of France. But his contribution for art secured his immortality ABA 4 Pablo Picasso a genius artist in the 20th century, made tremendous contributions to art throughout his entire life. Throughout his life, he created hundreds and thousands of paintings with different styles, from Surrealist to neo-classical, shows that his artistic vitality transcends any one style. When people asked about the secret of his artistic creation, he replied People dont realize what they have when they own a picture by me. Each picture is a phial with my blood.
